Hornet?

- Wirral hornet
Hi
Just came across this in the garden. Picture isn't great as I didn't want to get too near! Assuming it's a European hornet?

Yes indeed; a European Hornet (Vespa crabro) - the face and thorax colouration make this obvious. Well spotted !!

it also does look like a yellowjacket but the yellow color makes it look more like a European hornet.

For sure it's a representative of a European Hornet. I used to have their nest next to my
houses in Cannes. Very beautiful creatures.
