Batia unitella:

I recently caught this species in my Frodsham garden for the first time.

Steve Hind tells me that it is a fairly recent addition to the Cheshire List. The first was at Balderton in the SW of Cheshire in 1989. The next was not until 1998 at Chester, but it has since spread across most of the Cheshire Plain. However, it has yet to reach the Pennine foothills.

As it has only been recorded in about a dozen 10 kilometre squares it's worth looking out for.

My rather poor photo shows it's rather unusual resting pose.

Currently, our one and only record of B.unitella came from Elton on the 19th July 2005.
