Bohemannia quadrimaculella:
Hi,
Just found this gigantic nepticulid (well, it's 5mm long!), beaten from
alder on the old Barlow Tip by Chorlton Water Park in Manchester.
I presume its Bohemannia quadrimaculella. MBGBI says it can be beat from
alder foliage on dull days. Today certainly qualifies for dull.
According to MBGBI vol 1 its early stages are a bit of a mystery. Does
anyone know if these have since been determined?
I'll have to go back and see what I can find.
