I was reading up about the longhorn moth - the only moth - I had in the trap in Tytherington, Macclesfield last Wednesday. Since it was new for the garden, I wanted to be sure of the ID.

The lepiforum.de website mentioned a feature of the antennae of Nematopogon swammerdamella that was not in the Sterling and Parsons field guide. Whilst antennae are white on the upperside, the underside has a series of black dots or rings.

On Nematopogon schwarziellus, the antennae are white, without the marks.

I managed to capture this feature on the attached photo.
