Theridion pallens and 'Sputnik' Egg Sac:

Hi folks,

I chanced upon this rather stunning sight this morning when confirming the leaf-mine of Caloptilia rufipenella on Sycamore. It may well be a common and widespread species, but not being a spider person really I've not seen it before - well impressed with the architecture!

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,

Paidiscura pallens is a common and widespread spider species in Cheshire. The 'Sputnik' egg case can be regularly found on the underside of Pedunculate Oak (Quercus robur) leaves and I notice these regularly when out looking for Oak galls. There are currently 435 records on the rECOrd database - but this is still a 'good' record to get into RODIS !!

In case anybody might be confused - this spider has had a relatively recent name change - it used to be known as Theridion pallens.

Cheers.

Steve
