Terms of Use
Last reviewed: 20/10/2019
RECORD and Greater Manchester Local Records Centre (GMLRC) provide record-lrc.co.uk on a free to use basis to enable you to submit and report upon wildlife records, undertake ecological data searches, participate in structured wildlife surveys, book onto events, manage your mailing preferences and post articles and comments against selected site content.
To be considered valid, all biological records must include the following information as a minimum:
- The actual name of the observer - sorry but we cant accept "WildlifeWill72" etc.
- The name of the species or taxon observed;
- The location of the observation;
- The date of the observation.
By using record-lrc.co.uk to enter and manage your wildlife records you are confirming your agreement to these general terms of use:
1. Any records you submit are your own records, or you have the permission of the record owner(s) to submit them according to these terms;
2. You agree that your biological records can be made available for wider use as detailed below. If you do not want your records to be shared please do not submit them:
- The observer's name will be stored as part of any record you submit and may be shared with partner organisations and recording schemes as well as internally within RECORD;
- RECORD will make biological records available to nominated experts, usually Vice County recorders, for verification. The only personal information made available to the appropriate verifier is the observers name. If further information is required to verify a record, RECORD will contact you directly;
- By default, RECORD shares all biological records submitted via record-lrc.co.uk with partners, including local authorities, conservation organisations and the National Biodiversity Network (NBN). The NBN is administered by the Biological Records Centre (BRC). The NBN make all records publicly available via the NBN Atlas website. As such RECORD limits the precision of some of the records we share with the NBN. The only personal information shared with partners is the observer/determiner name, when there is a legitimate requirement for this level of detail. Observer/determiner names are never shared with the NBN due to the lack of access controls. Your contact details are never shared with partners, including the NBN. Those with a legitimate requirement for precise species locations and observer names are advised to contact us directly and there is a formal data request process in place to manage access to this data;
- Records may be shared with students, researchers and other interested individuals such as local naturalists, but in these cases observer/determiner names are excluded;
- Any records submitted through record-lrc.co.uk are shared as part of our commercial enquiries service, providing data to ecological consultancies, planning departments and others to be used as part of planning processes. Observer/determiner names, contact details and record comments are excluded from these searches;
- Records for protected, priority and otherwise sensitive species are not always made publicly available to avoid the persecution or disturbance of vulnerable species. These records are, however, shared as part of the commercial enquiries process detailed above and with trusted partners, organisations and individuals;
3. Your personal information and records will be held on a private database server administered by RECORD and GMLRC. Unless you opt-in to receive information about news and events, your contact details will only be used to contact you if there is a query about the verification of your records. RECORD will never pass on your personal information, other than name as described above, to any third party without your explicit permission.
